Academic freedom to be enshrined in Norwegian law

University legislation will also introduce stronger penalties for exam cheats

New Norwegian university legislation will introduce the term ‘academic freedom’ into national law, while also bringing in harsher sanctions for students who cheat and abolishing the notion of self-plagiarism.   

The proposed legislation, which was last week approved by the research and education committee in parliament, will affect students, researchers and administrative staff at universities and university colleges.
