Constitutionalise academic freedom, urge Norwegian groups

Current plans to safeguard expression do not go far enough, argue researchers and students

The concept of academic freedom should be written into the national constitution, the Norwegian Association of Researchers (Forskerforbundet) and National Union of Students in Norway (Norsk Studentorganisasjon) have urged.

While new Norwegian university legislation will introduce the term ‘academic freedom’ into law (in place of ‘professional freedom’), the move does not go far enough, they argued.
