Share of students found cheating in Sweden continues to fall

But teachers must heed warning signs, says report, as use of AI appears to drop

A little over 2,300 students were subjected to disciplinary measures for cheating in Sweden in 2023, down by 14 per cent on the previous year. This was revealed a new report from the Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ).

It marks the third year in a row that the UKÄ has detected a drop in students falling foul of their universities’ standards on coursework. This bucks a previous trend in which accusations of cheating and resulting disciplinary actions rose for four successive years, reaching a peak in 2021.
