More than a third of female PhD students in Denmark found to experience sexism
A survey of more than 5,000 PhD students in Denmark has concluded that large numbers of them have experienced sexism. According to the data, 37 per cent of female PhD students have experienced at least one verbal act that objectifies, excludes or degrades them on the basis of their gender during their PhD education.
Close to a quarter have also experienced behaviour that includes attempted or actual unwanted physical contact. The report warned that this means women are likely to quit academia after they have received their PhD.
