Swedish agricultural R&D faces crunch

Sweden’s scrapping of a tax on fertilisers could starve applied agricultural research of funding, according to the Swedish Farmers Foundation for Agricultural Research (Stiftelsen Lantbruksforskning). A portion of the tax previously financed research at the foundation, but since its abolition last year no alternative financing has been arranged, Bengt Persson, the foundation’s chairman, wrote in newspaper Dagens Industri on 28 July.
