Denmark’s government has identified cultural studies as a strategic priority research area for the next eight years. The decision comes in Forsk2020, a strategy published on 3 July that will guide allocations for the Danish Council for Strategic Research until the end of this decade.
As a result the council could fund more research with a focus on regions such as Africa and Asia, which are increasingly important for the Danish economy. But domestic issues, such as integrating the country’s 360,000 non-Western immigrants, are also part of the reason the theme has been selected. The goal is to create a more cohesive society, the strategy says.
