Research without consent
Sweden’s government is considering legalising research on certain patients who are incapable of giving informed consent—such as people with dementia. In a directive on 20 June, it says it will establish a task force to investigate how best to create circumstances for such people to take part in research that might improve their own condition. The task force must present its findings to government by 2014.
