Roman Arjona, Spain's secretary-general for science, technology and innovation, is returning to the European Commission's directorate-general for research.
Arjona had worked at the Commission since 2004 before being appointed by Spain’s conservative government in January 2012 to the ministry for economic affairs and competitiveness.
According to the ministry, Arjona will be DG research’s first advisor in charge of economic affairs, tasked with orienting R&D policies in member states to fulfil EU objectives for growth and jobs, and with studying the impact of R&D in national reform programmes.
