Former ERC president joins Austrian advisory council

Helga Nowotny, former president of the European Research Council, is among six appointments to the Austrian Council for Research and Technology Development.

Nowotny, emeritus professor of social science at ETH Zurich, served as president of the ERC between 2010 and 2013. She is the current chairwoman of the ERA Council Forum Austria, which advises the Austrian minister for science and research on the interface between Austrian and European research and innovation policy. 

The other members are Herman Houser, an entrepreneur and business angel; Sabine Herlitschka, chief executive of Infinineon Technologies Austria; Jakob Edler, professor of innovation policy and strategy at the University of Manchester; Klara Sekanina, a member of the Austrian Council for Research and Technology Development; and Sylvia Schwaag-Serger, director of international collaborations and networks at the Swedish Government Agency for Innovation Systems.
