Spain’s science minister and the leader of its lower chamber of parliament have backed the creation of a scientific advisory office to help parliamentarians access research evidence.
Ana Pastor, an MP for the right-wing Popular party and leader of the lower chamber, said on 6 November that the office should be created before the end of Spain’s current parliament. The next general election has to take place by July 2020 and could come sooner.
“For me, this initiative is one of the most important things in this parliamentary period,” Pastor said. She added that collaboration between researchers and lawmakers is “crucial to develop laws that are adapted to the needs of this century”.
