Gothenburg universities team up on sustainability

Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg are planning to establish a platform to contribute to sustainable development in the global south.

The initiative, which will focus on research, training and technology utilisation, will be based at Mistra Urban Futures, an international research and knowledge centre for sustainable urban development. It will be established as part of the Gothenburg Centre for Sustainable Development and contribute to research efforts aimed at improving sustainable technology and use of resources in developing countries.

Both Gothenburg universities already focus some resources on helping to achieve sustainable development in Africa, Asia and Latin America, often referred to as the “global south”. However, business and commercial activities in the area are fragmented and lack focus, the initiative’s supporters said.
