Union warns against ‘university totalitarianism’ if proposed law on rector terms passes

The European Students’ Union has called on Romania’s president Klaus Iohannis (pictured) to squash legislation that would allow university rectors in Romania to remain in office for an unlimited period of time.

In an open letter published on 14 February, ESU president Robert Napier and Petrisor-Laurentiu Tuca, the president of the National Alliance of Student Organizations in Romania, warned that the proposed law would set the country on a path to “university totalitarianism”.
