Suggestions North Macedonia’s relations with neighbouring Bulgaria could be a factor

Researchers in North Macedonia are up in arms after it was announced that the country’s highest honour for researchers—the Goce Delchev Award, which acknowledges standout achievement across all fields—will not be awarded for the second year running.

North Macedonia’s science ministry announced in January that the 2019 award will not be presented this year due to procedural difficulties. The presentation of the 2018 award was also scrapped last year, officially for financial reasons.
