Spain advised to offer more competitive researcher pay

Salary levels among considerations for boosting international recruitment and competitiveness of public research jobs

The Spanish government has been advised by its team of experts on the Covid-19 pandemic and its impacts to consider salaries in neighbouring countries when deciding how much to pay publicly funded researchers.

The ministry of science announced on 5 March that it had been advised it should carry out a comparative study and peg salaries “in relation to those offered in neighbouring countries, which are direct competitors for talent”.
