Spain to merge public research institutions as part of shakeup

Oceanography, agricultural and geological research institutes to be moved under one umbrella

As part of a wider shakeup of Spain’s research system, the country’s government has given the green light to integrate three public research institutes into the national research council, the CSIC.

The Spanish Institute of Oceanography, the National Institute for Agricultural and Food Research and the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain are all set to be brought under the CSIC umbrella, the Spanish research ministry said on 31 March.
