Government accepts findings of evaluation, saying it has set a target to raise spending
An evaluation of Latvian research institutions has found that the most important factor affecting their performance is a lack of adequate public funding—a finding that the government, which commissioned the evaluation, described as “valid”.
International evaluators “concluded that base funding for research in Latvia is too low and the government needs to invest more in research and innovation”, the consultancy Technopolis Group, which coordinated the evaluation, reported in March.
