Switzerland working on alternative to ERC and MSCA grants

Schemes intended to substitute for 2021 rounds of ERC Advanced Grants and MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships

The Swiss government is drawing up a mandate for the Swiss National Science Foundation to create domestic substitutes for 2021 calls from two of the EU’s most popular funding schemes, due to Switzerland being made ineligible to host grants from the schemes.

The “transition solution” will substitute for the 2021 calls of European Research Council Advanced Grants for established researchers and Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowships. It will be “aligned as closely as possible” with the calls for the EU schemes, but will have “independent submission deadlines”, the SNSF announced on 4 August.
