Switzerland extends ERC replacement funding

Government announces €88 million for replacement European Research Council Starting and Consolidator Grants

Switzerland has extended its schemes providing replacement funding for European Research Council grants. The country’s researchers are unable to access grants from the scheme as Switzerland is still locked out of the EU’s research and innovation programme.

The Swiss government has spent 1.85 billion Swiss francs (€1.9 billion) on EU replacement schemes over 2021-23. This is to make up for the country not joining Horizon Europe, the bloc’s €95.5 billion R&I programme.
