Swiss EU replacement scheme awards €119m

Scheme replacing European Research Council Starting Grants hands out funding

Switzerland has handed out funding under its scheme replacing European Research Council grants for early career researchers. Swiss researchers are unable to access grants from the prestigious funder as the country is still locked out of the EU’s R&I programme.

After Switzerland was prevented from taking part in the bloc’s research funding programme Horizon Europe in 2021, the government launched research schemes designed to match EU ones as far as possible. The Swiss schemes include three funding calls intended to replace the ERC’s Starting, Consolidator and Advanced Grants.
