Changes aim to recognise “greater diversity” of research careers and shrink gender pay gap

Spain has announced national reforms to how researchers are assessed for funding, which the government hopes will reduce a wide gender pay gap.

The move comes in tandem with a Europe-wide push to reform the way researchers are assessed, following a 2022 agreement brokered by the EU that seeks to broaden evaluation criteria beyond traditional measures largely based on scholarly publications.
