Danish research patents drop in 2010

Universities and other research institutions in Denmark saw a 5 per cent drop in research-related patent applications from 2009 to a total of 122 in 2010, according to statistics published by the government’s Council for Technology and Innovation on 19 July.

However, the number of spin-out businesses increased by 37 per cent in the same timeframe, with 11 new companies established last year. The number of inventions also went up in 2010, and research institutions saw their earnings from commercialisation efforts rise to 110 million kroner (€14.7m) in 2010.
