Europe's conditions for research and innovation must be strengthened for it to weather the economic crisis, said Morten Østergaard, Denmark’s minister for research, speaking to the European Parliament's Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) on 24 January.
Outlining the main focus areas of the Danish presidency, which include a ‘greener’ economy, the minister said that more research and innovation was needed to stop the downward spiral of low growth, high debt and job losses.
