Esben Lunde Larsen of the centre-right liberal Venstre party has been appointed Denmark’s minister for higher education and science, following last month’s election.
Larsen has been a member of the Danish parliament since 2011, and has worked as a spokesman in the higher education and science ministry since 2012. He has also been a member of the research, innovation and education committee of the government. He holds a PhD in theology from the University of Copenhagen, and his appointment was announced on 28 June.
The election on 18 June saw the centre-right parties gaining more votes than left-wing groups, with Venstre leader Lars Løkke Rasmussen taking over as prime minister from the social democrat Helle Thorning-Schmidt. Rasmussen has previously been prime minister, between 2009 and 2011.
