Denmark’s parliamentary ombudsman has criticised science minister Søren Pind for holding back a report on nuclear waste disposal in order to put a positive spin on its contents.
The report lingered in Pind’s ministry for four months, ombudsman Jørgen Sørensen said, even though officials had a duty to release it under Denmark’s environmental information regulations, which require facts about environmental risks to be in the public domain.
Once journalists requested access, the ministry delayed publication of the report by another 10 days to create a positive press release and “frame” its contents, he said.
