Finnish scientists get lottery money

Finland’s researchers can look forward to receiving a portion of a funding pot worth over €520 million from the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture next year, and they have their lottery-playing fellow citizens to thank, the Academy of Finland reported on 14 November.

Proceeds from lottery tickets sold will be distributed to science, arts, sports and youth projects next year. The money from Veikkaus, the company that operates lotteries in Finland, makes up 25 per cent of the total budget for science in Finland.
