Finland appoints science attaché to China

Finland's Ministry of Culture and Education has established a special advisor in Beijing to support scientific and research exchange between China and Finland.

The appointed advisor, Mika Tirronen, will link Chinese and Finnish education and science ministries, and boost university collaboration, the ministry said on 25 September.

Tirronen moved to Beijing in September and is appointed to the role for three years. He has previously worked as a project manager for China-related programmes in the Academy of Finland.

Higher education and research collaboration between the two countries has increased in recent years. This summer, China and Finland pledged to increase student exchanges. In May the two countries announced plans for a joint science park in Finland.
