Government plans Finnish research overhaul

An expert group has handed the Finnish government a proposal for a comprehensive research reform that would merge national research institutes and restructure public research funding.

The proposal, published by the Prime Minister’s Office on 20 September, suggests a three-way overhaul: Increasing collaboration between universities and research institutes; institutional mergers; and a new funding instrument for strategic research.
