Finnish Meteorological Institute celebrates 175 years of research

The Finnish Meteorological Institute held its anniversary party on 15 January, 175 years after it was established as the Helsinki magnetic meteorological observatory.

The institute started its life on on 23 March 1838 with the approval of the Russian emperor Nikolai I. The speakers at the anniversary event included the World Meteorological Institute’s president David Grimes, John Hirst from the UK Meteorological Office and Finnish Minister of Transport Merja Kyllönen.
