Marja Makarow, director of the Biocenter Finland research infrastructure, has been elected chairwoman of the board of the Tampere University Foundation.

The board—which is tasked with merging three higher education institutions in Tampere by 2019—had its first meeting on 4 July. During the meeting, it accepted the foundation’s action and financial plan, and the budget for 2017-20.

Aside from Makarow, Jukka Tapani Berqvist, chief executive of refrigeration automation company Huurre Group, was elected as vice-chairman. Their terms will run until December 2021.
