The Academy of Finland has launched four strategic research programmes, following a government decision to put more emphasis on ethics in the country’s scientific activities.
The four programmes, which were announced on 9 November, cover the use of innovative materials for resilience, the changing role of public authorities, cultural identities and technology, and sustainable food production.
According to the academy, applications to these programmes will open on 19 December and close on 23 January 2019. The idea behind the themes is to add an ethical dimension to hot research topics, said Per Mickwitz, the chairman of the Academy of Finland’s Strategic Research Council.
