About 50 per cent of early-career researchers in Finland have thought about switching careers because of the uncertainty of their jobs, a survey has revealed.
Early-career researchers in the country struggle with job insecurity, competition and cuts to funding in their field, the Finnish Union of University Researchers and Teachers, which carried out the survey, reported on 16 April. It warned that traditional university careers are becoming a relic of the past.
The results of the survey were presented at a conference organised jointly by the union and the European postdoc association Eurodoc on 18 and 19 April.
