VTT jumps up research ranking

The VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland was the fourth best research performer in the EU R&D programme Horizon 2020 last year, according to the European Research Ranking.

The centre announced on 6 September that it had jumped up from 21st to fourth place in the European Research Ranking between 2016 and 2017. The ranking orders Horizon 2020 participants according to factors including the amount of money they win and their partnership activities.

Between 2014 and 2018, the first four years of Horizon 2020, the VTT bagged €123 million from the programme—17 per cent of Finland’s total. According to Antti Vasara, the centre’s president, this was down to the VTT’s strong reputation for innovation.
