Regional institutes too small to perform, says report

Several regional research institutes in Norway are too small to achieve impact, and should be merged with other institutions, according to a review by an evaluation committee.

The report, published on 16 January, found that some of the country’s 12 regional research institutes struggle to produce quality work because of their small size. The institutes are different from national research institutes, which are larger and receive a bigger slice of public research funding.
