Incoming government must build on 2014 budget proposal

The next Norwegian government, a coalition between the Conservatives and the Progress Party, has been urged by funders to stay true to the outgoing government’s budget proposal for 2014.

On 14 October, the red-green coalition of the Labour Party, the Socialist Left Party, and the Centre Party, proposed a budget for next year that would increase research spending and focus on early-career scientists.

The next government, which is led by Conservative Erna Solberg and took over on 16 October, has been advised to build on this by the Research Council of Norway and the Norwegian Research Association.
