Torbjørn Røe Isaksen, a member of the Conservative Party, has been appointed Norway’s next education and research minister.
Isaksen, who started his post on 16 October, joined the Norwegian parliament in 2009. He holds a masters degree in political science from the University of Oslo. Before entering politics he was a journalist for a range of local newspapers.
The research minister post was held by Tora Aasland of the Socialist Left under the previous labour leadership from 2007 to 2012, and the responsibility was passed on to Socialist Left Kristin Halvorsen after Aasland retired last year. The Conservative Party won Norway’s national elections in September.
