Norway pours money into research equipment

The Norwegian research council, Forskningsrådet, is spending 500 million kroner (€62m) on research equipment and laboratories this year to improve research.

The amount comes out of a total research budget of NOK1.5 billion for the country in 2013. Last year Norwegian researchers complained of equipment shortages after the government placed increasing emphasis on research in health, the bioeconomy, energy, climate and the environment.

“With modern infrastructure in place, Norway is better equipped to attract talented researchers and win funding under the EU framework programme,” said Arvid Hallén, head of the Norwegian Research Council.
