R&D spending to go up by kr320m

The Norwegian government plans to spend 28 billion Norwegian kroner on R&D in 2014, a 3 per cent increase from 2013 and a kr320 million (€40m) boost on a previous proposal.

Priority is given to strengthening industry research, according to a government statement issued along with the budget on 8 November. A total of kr80m will be spent on user-driven research, which is meant to encourage more ambitious R&D initiatives.

The government also wants to ramp up research in petroleum, marine science, nanotechnology, biotechnology and ICT. It proposes to spend kr7.8m on an industrial PhD scheme.
