Student organisation slams performance-based funding

Norway’s funding system for education does not promote teaching excellence and should become less performance-based, argues the Norwegian Student Organisation.

The organisation’s chairman Petter Aaslestad, and its CEO Øvind Berdal, say that Norway’s education funding system, under which 40 per cent of the budget is awarded according to student credits gained during the previous year, means universities often take on more students than they can handle without increasing teaching capacity.
