The Research Council of Norway has announced the creation of 17 centres for research-driven innovation, with the aim of strengthening long-term industrial R&D.
The council is to fund the research centres with about 1.6 billion Norwegian kroner (€180 million) over the next 8 years, it said in a statement on 21 November. The centres were picked through a competitive process involving an international panel. A total of 57 applications were submitted.
The focus areas of the centres include oil, aquaculture, healthcare, ICT, the bioeconomy, big data, metal production and marine operations. They will be collaborations between universities, companies and research institutes.
