The Norwegian Association of Higher Education Institutions (UHR) has rejected a proposal to prohibit the wearing of burkas in universities.
On 12 June, the government presented a bill that would ban face-covering garments in all kindergartens, schools, colleges and universities. These garments “prevent good communication that is essential for students to be able to learn well”, Torbjørn Røe Isaksen, Norway’s research minister, said in a statement.
The bill, which has been sent for consultation, would apply to both students and employees.
