Russia is planning to launch a crewed mission in 2018 from the Vostochny launch centre that is now under construction, Russian president Vladimir Putin has told astronauts on board the International Space Station.
The mission would be the first crewed space expedition launched from Russian soil.
Putin was speaking to the group over a video link on 12 April, on Russia’s cosmonauts’ day, from Vostochny. Among the six astronauts now at the ISS are three Russians, Pavel Vinogradov, Roman Romanenko, and Alexander Misurkin.
