The Russian president Vladimir Putin has called on universities to help support the labour market in the far east of the country.
Top Russian universities should set up outposts in the easternmost region of the country and pay special attention to vocational education, Putin told the third Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok on 7 September. The event aims to strengthen ties between Russia and the Asia Pacific region.
“It is important to fully utilise the educational potential of the region,” Putin said, according to a government press release. The Russian far east is sparsely populated and lacks infrastructure.
