Putin: Russia to be a science leader by 2024

Russia will seek to become one of the top five countries in the world in science and technology by 2024, according to objectives set out by president Vladimir Putin.

Putin announced targets for science and education for his next six-year term, as part of a post-inauguration domestic agenda known as the May decrees, which he signed on 7 May.

One objective for 2018-24 is to put Russia in the top five countries in the world for R&D. The decrees also commit the president to ensuring the attractiveness of the country to international researchers, both at the beginning and at the height of their careers.
