Member states push for clean energy

A group of 13 member states has called on the EU to take steps to boost R&D in low-carbon energy technologies, in light of growing competition from emerging economies.

The Going for Green Growth report, launched on 28 October, calls on the EU to set out a low-carbon policy and reform the structure of its Emissions Trading System, with the aim of stimulating private investment by European companies in sustainable technologies.

“We are well placed to benefit from the global low carbon business boom,” states the report. “But we must re-energise our efforts to compete in an increasingly competitive global low carbon market.”
