One year after she became chief scientific adviser to European Commission president José Manuel Barroso, Anne Glover has made it on to the BBC’s list of the most powerful women in the UK. Catie Lichten caught up with her to find out what she’s done to earn her spot.

Last week, the BBC named you the 19th most powerful woman in the UK. Do we need such a list?

Human beings love lists, so there is no point in saying we shouldn’t have them. If it does anything, I hope it draws attention to the fact that women make a big contribution, but sometimes they’re invisible. When the BBC is looking for people to comment on current affairs, now they’ve got a list, but shame on them that they haven’t done it before.
