Cohesion funds boost research, says Commission

Cohesion policy funds have supported more than 50,000 R&D projects since 2007, according to the latest figures from the European Commission.

The data is presented in a review of cohesion policy programmes from 2007 to 2013, which shows innovation and small businesses are receiving a "huge boost" from structural funds, says the Commission.

So far, cohesion programmes have funded 53,240 research and technological development projects and 16,000 business-research projects, states the report. In total, 53,160 start-up schemes have been supported.
