Regions push for EU budget progress

The president of the EU Committee of the Regions has told the European Parliament they must reach an agreement on the next seven-year budget before the summer break.

The CoR president, Ramon Luis Valcárcel, said this will be vital to allow adequate planning of regional and local investment for the coming years.

Speaking to the president of the European Parliament Martin Schulz during a plenary session on 10 April, Valcárcel also defended expenditure on cohesion policy as one of the best ways to increase innovation and support jobs. "For many of us, it is one of the few tools left to design the future of our communities", he said.
