The Innovative Medicines Initiative is about to launch a special call for proposals on vaccines and treatments for Ebola, the partnership has announced.
The IMI, a public-private partnership launched in 2008 to accelerate the development of medical treatments, is finalising the call specifications, which could be published this week, it said. Although the amount of funding available has not yet been disclosed, a spokeswoman from IMI said the initiative aims to fund projects on vaccines and treatments against Ebola and other haemorrhagic fevers.
The specific topics that the IMI is planning to address are vaccine development, manufacturing capability, stability of vaccines during their transport and storage, the development of rapid diagnostic tests, and the deployment of vaccination regimens using, for instance, mobile applications, the spokeswoman said.
