MEPs from the Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy group have called for Jean-Claude Juncker to be sacked over allegations he presided over tax evasion in Luxembourg.
The motion of censure was submitted to the European Parliament by the EFDD on 18 November. The motion included signatures from 76 MEPs from right-wing groups, including the UK Independence Party and the National Front in France. It was handed to Martin Schulz, president of the European Parliament, and will be voted on by MEPs next week.
In the document, MEPs call for the entire European Commission to step down, following the emergence of the so-called ‘Lux leaks’ scandal. This indicates that Luxembourg approved corporate schemes for international companies to avoid taxes, whilst Juncker was prime minister of the country.
