EU member states have told the European Commission to come up with a new strategy for space.
EU ministers, gathered at the Competitiveness Council held in Brussels on 4-5 December, said they recognised the importance of space research, and backed the development of a long-term European agenda in order to attract investments to the field. To that end, they called on the Commission and the European Space Agency to work together and put forward a series of roadmaps for future space activities.
“The time is ripe to start reflecting on and preparing future initiatives by the Union in its fields of competence,” the Council said in a statement.
